Christmas market, potato pancakes, we tour the city and the sits.
We decide to do the very tourist thing and visit Hofbrauhaus. We enjoy Dunel beer and live music, and are surrounded by lots of people. We make room at our table, as is custom, for an older couple, who are a bit overwhelmed with the scene and crowd. Seating is first come first served, seat yourselves, share your tables, but there are some weird rules, and with many languages being spoken, they are probably fairly overwhelmed. We chat with John and Maggie. They have traveled to Germany before, we talk concentration camps, home life back in the states, and politics. Could be trouble.... it wasn't. Although touristy, and commercialized compared to our past halls, the history is without question. And a place where everyone is welcome, and nobody goes away disappointed is not your typical tourist stop considering a meeting place for the world. After another round of Zwikle, Wiesse and a Kaswerspetzwl (basically german mac and cheese) w/ a wurst, we head back to the flat, to grab our luggage, and catch a train.
We stop at a beautiful church in our neighborhood, rebuilt after being bomed during the war. This church has a mix of tradition, history, and some more modern elements. We look at the photos of post boming and pre construction, and are amazed at the work. Breathtaking
We are sad not to meet Annie face to face, she was a real doll and quite helpful. Highly recommend her, we will need to send her good review.
HBF, plan route, get post cards, snacks, champaign, this is the new norm for train travel.
Arrivederci Munich!
